AN ETHIOPIAN school has named a music wing after Darfield musical director Holin Hammerton, who died in April.
Nicolas Robinson School in Mekele, Ethiopia, opened the wing after the Dearne Big Band, of which Holin was musical director, raised £15,000 at a concert in Switzerland.
The school is funded by Rainbows for Children, a charity run by the Max Robinson, the cousin of Holin’s widow, Jackie, and named after his son, who died young.
Jackie said: “Max had been in the church choir at St Leonard’s when Holin was the organist there and he thought it would be rather nice to have a music wing named after him."
