A LOCAL MP has teamed up with the police and local residents to tackle road safety issues in a Barnsley village.
Miriam Cates, who represents the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, was out and about with residents on North Lane, Cawthorne, recently.
She said she’s received numerous complaints from residents who believe the area has become a ‘hotspot for speeding and traffic incidents’.
She joined the residents alongside the local police team and Coun Robert Barnard to review the concerns.
Mrs Cates added: “It was particularly helpful to discuss potential measures to reduce the speed which traffic approaches blind bends and concealed entrances, including better and more visible signage.
“I’m also aware that the equestrian centre on Crabtree Lane wants more to be done to help rider safety in the area, so it was useful to discuss the benefit of driver hazard awareness, such as horse warning signs, with the police.
“Along with Coun Barnard, I have now written to the highways team at Barnsley Council to request a review of signage on the road, and an investigation into any other measures that could be introduced to make road users more aware of local hazards.”
