BARNSLEY Football Club legend Barry Murphy will be hosting an event at Oakwell later this month in a bid to get the older generation out and about this Christmas.
Reds hall-of-famer Murphy, who played a record 569 times for Barnsley and has recently had a stand named after him, is encouraging locals to get involved with the event on Thursday.
It’s hoped the event will offer older residents a chance to speak with one another this Christmas period in a bid to combat loneliness across the borough.
Interim CEO Jon Flatman said the event will offer a great opportunity for the club and its more senior fans to meet as we look ahead to the Christmas period.
He added: “It’s great that we’ve an opportunity like this during the festive season, enabling us to offer outstanding food at an affordable price, aimed at the older generation of Reds.
“We’re a community club and it’s important - particularly in the current climate - that we show that spirit and togetherness and we’re looking forward to what should be a wonderful afternoon.”
More information can be found on the club’s website.
