A BARNSLEY shoplifter who stole more than £2,500 worth of items and was caught carrying ‘improvised weapons’ in the town centre has avoided jail time.
Jamie Gotobed, of Portland Street, committed the crimes in May.
These included £1,344 in clothing from Sports Direct on May 24, £915 from the same store the next day, and £280 of cosmetics from Boots on May 28.
He was also stopped in the town centre on May 13 carrying a number of homemade weapons - including a stick with screws in it and a belt wrapped with shards of glass.
At Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on December 5 he was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 24 months, and ordered to keep working with his rehabilitation workers.
He was also ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work.
