BARNSLEY’S new multi-million pound bridge - which will dominate the town centre skyline - will open to the public next month.
Market Gate Bridge will be a permanent replacement for the former Jumble Lane level crossing which was closed by Network Rail to improve safety in the area.
It was revealed at yesterday’s full council meeting that the £12m structure will open to the public on December 8 - but some public realm works will be incomplete.
Coun Robin Franklin said: “The public realm works will be completed at some point in the new year, but I’m sure everyone will agree that this is a wonderful addition to the town centre.
“There’s been a slight delay but it has been a complex project.
“The temporary bridge will also be removed on the weekend that commences December 8.”
