A WRESTLING enthusiast has taken his passion into the real world and is now in the process of creating a local tournament.
Mark Lee has been wrestling for decades under the title of the villainous Mr Lee and in the past few years has begun taking over the behind the scenes organisation of shows.
Yet it was only when friends began suggesting he begin his own promotion did he come up with the idea of KaMa, a new Barnsley-based show.
He told the Chronicle: “I’ve seen so many shows run and in the last few years I’ve been running shows for others.
“People started asking why I don’t run my own shows and to be honest I’d never really thought about it.
“But they were right, I’ve got contacts and experience so it’s the next logical step.
“We’re basing it around Barnsley so it’s truly local and hopefully people will recognise some of the wrestlers.”
Shows will focus on finding the rightful winner of the Barnsley Wrestling Championship Belt, something Mark created five years ago as a bit of a joke.
“I made it to wind people up,” he added.
“When I was travelling for different shows I could take it with me and say that I’m the Barnsley champion and Barnsley’s better than anywhere else.
“People got into it and since I was the bad guy they wanted to see me lose it.
“That’s happened now and when it did people went crazy - the fans love to see me get beaten up.
“Since we’re starting this I thought we’ve already got the belt and can use it here - it really makes it a local thing.”
There first show will take place on October 25 at the Staincross Club and Mark is inviting anyone interest to get involved - contact can be made via their Facebook page.
