A PRIMARY school joined in collection efforts for Ukrainian refugees fleeing their wartorn country.
St Mary’s Primary in Old Town have been gathering donations to be transported to the refugees who have been forced to flee their homes due to the Russian invasion, led by President Vladimir Putin.
Thousands of refugees have already fled to nearby countries including Poland, which St Mary’s said their school has strong links to.
The school put themselves forward to be a collection point for anyone who would like to donate things including first-aid materials, sanitary products, clothes, shoes and other essential items.
“We are coming together as a community to help those in need, special assemblies of a sensitive manner have been held for the children and they are so happy at being able to help the people in need,” said a spokesperson for the school.
“It’s quite close to our hearts here as we do have quite a few Polish students.
“We think we’ll collect quite a lot as the school community always pull together so well for things like this.”
