Barnsley's seven-match winning run came to an end with a 0-0 draw at home to Derby County on Wednesday evening.
After a poor first half, both sides missed big opportunities after the break with the visitors finishing the stronger.
The Reds are unbeaten in ten and remain sixth in the Championship, two points clear of seventh-placed Bournemouth who they visit on Saturday.
Valerien Ismael made two changes to the side that beat Birmingham on Saturday, with Conor Chaplin replacing Dominik Frieser and Toby Sibbick coming in for Michael Sollbauer. Aapo Halme was not on the bench due to a minor groin injury, with Jasper Moon replacing him.
The first half was a poor spectacle, with both sides relying mainly on long balls and the game often descending into a scrappy series of clearances and aerial battles.
Very little happened for the first 15 minutes, then a long ball over the top exposed the home back line but Lee Gregory could not control it which would have put him clean through on goal.
At the other end, Callum Brittain's powerful cross-come-shot whistled just over the bar from the right of the Derby area then Cauley Woodrow volleyed well wide from 25 yards.
Daryl Dike then had a good opportunity from a right-wing Brittain cross but headed well wide from ten yards out. Two minutes later the same player met a cross from the left by Callum Styles but his 15-yard header was easily caught by the goalkeeper Kelle Roos which was the only shot on target of a forgettable first half.
There was a huge chance for the hosts 50 seconds into the second half when a left-wing cross by Alex Mowatt was met six yards out by Chaplin who looked certain to score but was denied from close range by Roos.
Graeme Shinnie then had the visitors' first shot on target but sent his 20-yard effort straight at Brad Collins who gathered easily.
Ismael made a triple change just before the hour with Carlton Morris, Victor Adeboyejo and Jordan Williams replacing Chaplin, Woodrow and Styles.
The visitors then missed a major chance in the 72nd minute when Colin Kazim-Richards got behind the home defence from a long ball and squared to Gregory who was one-on-one with Collins but the goalkeeper made a fine block.
Shinnie then hit the base of the bottom right post from just outside the box before the ball ran across the goalline and out.
