Josh Wale lost his fight for the British super-bantamweight title at the Metrodome on Friday night.
The 30-year-old from Brampton went down on a unanimous decision against Brad Foster from Lichfield by scores of 117-112, 117-111 and 119-110.
Wale was bidding to become the first ever Barnsley man to win a British title in the town or to claim a national belt at two weights having previously been bantamweight champion. The fight was contested in front of a 1,100 sell-out crowd, mainly fans of Wale but with a large contingent supporting the away man.
Josh struggled to stamp his authority on the fight early on with Foster, the younger man by nine years, landing more punches and shading the majority of the rounds in the first half of the fight.
Wale was more aggressive in the middle rounds, landing with some good blows but also receiving some punishment as the contest intensified.
Foster, who had never been beyond eight rounds previously in his ten-fight career, did not appear to tire and saw out the victory.
