BARNSLEY College has taken over a local training provider, adding to its offer of apprenticeships and training opportunities for young people.
Independent Training Services (ITS), based in Park Road, is a registered charity which provides training to around 1,000 learners a year, as well as working with local businesses to train existing employees.
The acquisition will mean an additional employer-led arm to the college, expanding on its existing range of apprenticeship opportunities.
Yiannis Koursis, interim principal and chief executive at Barnsley College, said: “The coming together of both organisations will mean an opportunity for a greater pool of strengths and experience to support long-term growth for the region. We will form a responsive organisation which will make a positive impact on Barnsley and the wider region.”
ITS has been incorporated into the college as a wholly owned subsidiary, but will retain its current identity.
Dr Chris Payne, chief executive officer of ITS Group, added: “The coming together of Barnsley College and ITS Group is a positive decision which will certainly benefit local people, businesses and community. Our common accord is to develop career pathways for young people and raise the workforce skill level and productivity for employers. We look forward to working with Barnsley College.”
