Postman Paul Dunn made a sensational return to Barnsley snooker team, helping them to a draw at league leaders Castleford. Played in the excellent Pontefract Community Centre in front of a packed house, Dunn, who has been out of the first team fold for three months, took to the table with his side trailing 3-1 and staring defeat in the face. However, Dunn, who is the Barnsley Scratch Champion, delivered the 'performance of the season' according to manager Robert Clegg and pulled off a remarkable 2-0 win over Mick Tomlinson under enormous pressure. The first frame in particular had the fans on the edge of their seats as Dunn showed great table craft to lead by 11 points with just the pink and black left. Tomlinson snookered Dunn behind the black, which was on its spot, touching ball. Dunn's first attempt was a foul and a miss, cutting his lead to five points and despite missing with his second attempt, the difference was by the thinnest of margins and this time, the referee ordered just a foul. Dunn now trailed by one point.
He was put back in by his opponent and played safe, sending the pink ball right onto the bottom cushion. Tomlinson's attempt at sending the pink onto the top cushion fell short and what followed was arguably the shot of the season from a Barnsley player. Dunn potted the pink, but normally the white ball would go round the table to the left off at least two cushions but would not guarantee him a shot on the black. However, he put that much right-hand check side on the cue ball, it came right down the middle of the table to finish next to the black. He duly potted the black to the amazement of his team-mates. Dunn opened up an early lead in the second frame, leading by 15 points and he held the lead all the way to win 56-34 with the black still left on. Earlier, Brett Miller had lost only his second frame of the season against John Arnold, 43-53 despite Miller potting the final red. However, he could not find position and Arnold cleared up. Miller recovered in the second frame to win comfortably 26-68.
Paul Brown was next up against Peter Fisher, who is one of the top eight players in Yorkshire. Fisher made a 96 break to win the first frame and then won the second frame 93-0. l In an article about Joe Johnson’s snooker academy at Corner Pockets, it was reported that his previous club in Wakefield had shut. That is incorrect and the club is still open
