JO Larkin has helped rescue and re-home more than 600 dogs from Romania, many of them from horrific ‘kill shelters’.
The 39-year-old said the plight of street dogs in the eastern European country is a tough pill to swallow.
Often they are abandoned pets or have been born on the streets and are fighting to survive.
Jo said not only do these dogs have the daily struggle of finding food and shelter, they are at risk of being run over, freezing to death, or caught by the dog catchers and taken to so-called ‘kill shelters’. Here, Jo said, the dogs are often starved, beaten and poisoned with many suffering slow and painful deaths.
