Adam Hammill was not a Barnsley player the last time the club went to Wembley but he has heard all about it.

On his drives into the club in his first spell alongside Stephen Foster he was talked through that remarkable FA Cup run – and Foster's goal against Hammill's beloved Liverpool.

Hammill, who arrived the season after the run to the 2008 semi-final which the Reds lost to Cardiff, told the Chronicle: "I was at the game and Foster scored in it.  I used to give him stick and say he misplaced the header but the lads talked about it and about Wembley.

"The players spoke about the atmosphere and the occasion but the difference this time is that we are going to come away as winners."

Hammill's third stint at Oakwell has helped the winger to rebuild his reputation following release from Huddersfield Town. He says a lot of the rebuilding for him and the club has been down to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, the final of which they face Oxford in on Sunday.

"I got an assist and a spectacular winning goal in the first game (against York) and then the winning penalty against Fleetwood was a career highlight. The game against York was my first in four months and I was hanging on towards the end but I got through it.  It's been a great competition for us this year. It has given us confidence and also helped us with our league form as well."

Hammill remains a huge fans' favourite and, when asked what it would mean to him to score the winner, he added: "It would just be the perfect ending to a fairytale story. I wouldn't put it past myself to do that. I get on great with the fans.

"It's just the place that seems to fit for me.  It's a home away from home. I've always felt I've belonged here even though I've got my wife and kids in Liverpool. I'm looking forward to the game and I'm going into it with confidence.  The fans deserve a bit of silverware and they have stuck with us through thick and thin.

"I can't wait for the experience of playing at Wembley.  I want to be back there in the play-off final too. We want to get into the Championship."
