THE Barnsley town centre regeneration project has won a top national award.

The £50m Better Barnsley scheme has won IBI Group the national urban design awards, practice award; a top national accolade for architecture practices involved in urban design.

The IBI Group’s Marcus Wilshire and Seamus Lennon submitted the Barnsley scheme as a good example of urban design and sound recommendations for future projects.

Their submission described the IBI Group’s approach to creating a highly successful town centre prospectus that clearly demonstrated to the council and local stakeholders how real improvements could be achieved without losing potential investors.
