A HISTORIC church in Great Houghton is hoping to attract more visitors through its doors.
St Michael’s and All Angels Church, on Church Street, was granted funding from Historic England after being recognised as a site of historical significance.
It is one of only four churches built during the time of Oliver Cromwell in the whole of England. But last year, it only had 37 visitors.
Church warden Christine Howard said: “We have got to keep the church open six hours a week, 40 weeks a year for the next ten years. But there is not an awful lot of people come visiting. We need visitors desperately.”
