A BARNSLEY man who has graduated with an Open University degree aged 58 hopes it will prove a useful lesson to his children in the value of education.

Graham Snape has spent eight years studying for his BSc in computing and management sciences which was made all the more difficult by him also having to work full time along the way.

Graham, of Shelley Drive, Monk Bretton, left school at 16 and went straight into work. He now works as a senior business analyst at Yorkshire Building Society, and says while his degree will have some benefit to his professional life, it was ‘90 per cent’ a personal mission.

“I turned my back on education and always regretted it. I believe if God blesses you with a modicum of intelligence, you’ve got an obligation to put it to use.”
