MORE than 400 fines were issued to parents who took their children out of school for a holiday during term-time.
Parents were slapped with the fines under strict new rules put in place by the Department of Education place two years ago demanding headteachers take a harder line on term-time leave requests.
Figures obtained by the Chronicle show 402 fines were issued to parents in Barnsley during the last academic year, from September 2014 to August 2015. This an increase of 28 per cent compared to the 314 issued in the same period the year before.
