A PIONEERING bridge in Hull designed and built by a Barnsley engineering company has won the latest in a raft of six awards.
The Scale Lane Footbridge, east of Hull city centre, is a moveable 1,000 tonne swing bridge in sleek black steel. It is believed to be a world first offering pedestrians and cyclists the chance to walk and cycle on and off the 57-metre span bridge while it is in motion.
The bridge has just been named winner of the 'Contribution to the Built Environment' category at the Living Waterways awards presented at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
Qualter Hall's managing director George Orton said he was delighted and proud to receive such a prestigious award.
He said: "The design of the bridge is certainly unique. it has been a privilege to be involved with a project that not only serves the practical purpose of linking the east and west banks of Hull, but has also created a new cultural landmark for the city."
