THREE members of Grimethorpe Colliery Band were invited to meet King Charles at a special visit to Windsor Castle.
Last Thursday, band manager Andy Kennedy, musical director Ben Nixon and youth and education lead Jim Fletcher, visited Windsor Castle in a special event hosted by the King to celebrate community music across the UK.
His Majesty invited 350 guests to recognise the vital role music plays in strengthening communities and showcase the people and organisations involved in grassroots music groups and projects, with a focus on volunteers and community leaders.
The event began with a short performance from three musical groups in the grand Waterloo Chamber, before the royal party met guests during a drinks reception in St George’s Hall.
Andy Kennedy said: “Being invited to Windsor Castle by the King in recognition of the hard work the band does for our communities was a huge honour and privilege.
“Grimethorpe Colliery Band’s very proud of our long history of being community-focused and our youth and education programmes continue to inspire the next generation of young players for the movement.”
