BARNSLEY club runners enjoyed success at various races this week.

Penistone Footpath Runners Suzanne McGill and Gemma Nutton competed in the DonFaster 5k which is renowned for fast times on a flat course.

Suzanne broke her own women’s over45 club record for the 5k distance, clocking a time of 19-43.

Gemma finished in 23-00.

There were PBs for Barnsley AC’s Wayne Singleton (16-29), Alan Nutton (17-24) and Dave Findlay (20-11).

Wayne also finished as first over40 man. Jack Bellamy ran a time of 16-37.

Naomi Drakeford ran her second fastest 5k time to finish as first woman in 17-10.

Penistone runners competed at the Vale of York five and ten-mile races.

Julia Johnson claimed fourth spot overall in the women’s category of the five-mile race with a time of 35-56.

She also claimed top spot in the women’s over60 age category.

Keith Gordon, also competing in the five-mile race, grabbed first place in the men’s over75 age category with 43-43.

Barnsley AC’s Caroline Spensley improved her PB by more than two minutes with 55-32.

Kevin Manley ran his best five-mile time since 2020 and finished as third over70 man in 40-09.

Three Penistone runners took on the ten-mile race – John Broom (1-08-57), Shaun Swallow (1-12-44) and Martin Hughes (1-22-06).

Martin claimed fourth place in the men’s over65 age group and John took fifth place in the men’s over55 age category which had a field of 40 runners.

Barnsley AC’s Lee Spensley set a PB by more than a minute with a time of 1-13-45.

Zoe and Lee Mitchell finished in 1-32-09.

Nine Barnsley Harriers took part with Julie Riding, Kay Conway, and John Skipper all recording PBs for the ten-mile distance

Penistone’s Jill Scrivens and Sarah Halstead headed to the Lake District to take on the scenic Coniston 14-mile race.

Sarah finished in 2-29 and Jill in 2-01 which gave her 14th place out of 59 runners in the women’s over50 age category.
