BARNSLEY AC’s Naomi Drakeford set the new women’s course record at Retford Half Marathon.

Her time of 1-17-43 took 17 seconds off the previous record of 1-18-00 set in 2022.

The men’s team prize was won by Gareth Cooke, Bradley Walker and Wayne Singleton.

There were PBs for Walker (1-14-16), Singleton (1-15-33), Gregg Harrison (1-30-41) and Dave Findlay (1-36-44).

First back for Penistone Footpath Runners was Suzanne McGill whose time of 1-29-08 placed her in third in the women’s over45 age category. Not far behind was Gareth Irvine in 1-29-13. Others competing were Rob Davies (1-35-47) who claimed fifth place in the men’s over60 age category, Heather Simpson (1-51-03) and Chloe Worth (1-50-51).

Barnsley Harrier Adam Chambers took more than a minute off his PB and finished fourth in his age category.

Penistone’s James Mumford claimed first place at the Windmills Six road race, which takes place on the hills above Penistone. He won by two minutes in a time of 35-56.

Penistone’s Dan Rushforth and Jemma Williams made the trip to the Peak District to compete in the challenging Grindleford Gallop which is a 21-mile race through several scenic villages including Froggatt, Eyam, Great Longstone and Baslow.

Jemma completed the route in 3-29-25 which gave her fifth place in the women’s over40 age category, a category which included 76 runners.

Dan finished in a time of 3-13-19 which placed him 45th out of the total field of 442 runners.

Barnsley AC’s Lydia Race finished as third over40 woman in her first ten-mile race at Thirsk 10 which was also part of the Yorkshire Vets Championships.

Her time was 1-04-21.

Chris McNicholas ran 1-08-45 while Jayne Manley finished in 1-44-30.

There were personal bests for Penistone’s Pete Beever (1-16-11), Lois Lopez (1-19-56), Stefan Butler-Gillen (1-24-02) and Jill Scrivens (1-24-17).

There were PBs for Barnsley Harriers Rachel Jardine – who took ten minutes off her previous best – Jay West, Jess Manley and Angie Slater.

Penistone’s Damian Kilpin competed at the Blakey Blitz which is a challenging ten-mile fell race held in the North Yorkshire Moors.

Damian finished in a time of 1-35-06 which gave him 17th place overall and second in the men’s over45 age category.

At the Wakefield 10k, Barnsley AC’s Scott Hinchcliffe ran a course PB of 31-54 to take second place overall. Age category podium positions went to Alan Nutton (third over40 man), Joe Restell (second over50 man) and Abby Parkin (second over35 woman). There were strong runs from Penistone’s Lee Hopkins (48-47), Kelly Howson (52-16), Stu Smith (54-31) and Steve Dommett (1-10-25). Simon Haywood was the first Harrier back with club legend Janet Heeley the first over75 woman. Mark Oates and Stephanie Gillot ran their first 10k race for the club.

In the half marathon race at Draycote Water Running Festival near Rugby, Barnsley AC’s Lee Spensley finished as first over55 man and ran a PB of 1-37-23.

Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood ran 18-30 at March’s York 5k to finish as second over55 man.

At Podium 5k in Leicester, Barnsley AC’s Jack Bellamy finished in 16-24 while knocking 21 seconds off his PB.

Barnsley AC’s Kerry Storrar competed in the Pro Women’s event at Hyrox Glasgow, finishing as first over50 woman in an overall time of 1-20-44.
