A stand-off in Monk Bretton ended when police arrested a man who had been denying them entry to his house.
His mental health is being assessed.
Several roads were closed as officers dealt with the incident near the Full House pub. And neighbours of the man had to be evacuated.
The drama started at lunchtime on Tuesday. The area was taped off and police, fire and ambulance vehicles were called to the scene.
Officers removed a man from a property on Bronte Close at abut 5.45pm.
A police spokesman said: "An incident in which a man was refusing entry to his house in Bronte Close, Monk Bretton, Barnsley has been resolved peacefully after he emerged from the premises.
"The man, aged 30, has been arrested on suspicion of threats to commit criminal damage and is currently being questioned by police and will also be subject of mental health assessments.
"The incident began at about 1pm today and was resolved by police at about 5.45 pm. Roads in the area are fully open.
"A family living next door to the property who were evacuated as a precaution have also returned to their home."
