WING-BACK Corey O’Keeffe says he has been enjoying working with coach and fellow Irishman Conor Hourihane recently – and it’s helped him register six assists this campaign.

The 26-year-old signed from Forest Green Rovers last season and was in and out of the squad until late last year.

He’s managed to cement his place in the starting 11, ahead of Barry Cotter who started the season on the right.

O’Keeffe says he and Cotter have a good relationship.

He told the Chronicle: “Me and Barry get on really well.

“It’s been like that since I’ve come in.

“We’ve both had little stints in the team.

“It’s healthy competition – Barry will say the same when he’s playing and I’ll say it when I’m playing.

“We get on really well and there’s nothing between us – we want to push each other forward.”

Former Barnsley captain Hourihane has been working on set pieces with the squad – and O’Keeffe says his influence has been massive for him.

He added: “At the end of nearly every session, Conor gets players who involved and he comes up with a new one nearly every day.

“Him and Ed the analyst are always doing little bits and bobs.

“But we enjoy it.”

Only Wrexham’s Ryan Barnett has registered more assists that O’Keeffe this term – but does he set himself targets?

“I don’t set myself numbers,” he added.

“I just want to get as many as I can.

“I want to help the team.

“I’ve obviously got quite a lot of assists but I want a lot more so we’re working on that.”
