THE Christmas spirit inspired locals to be extra generous this winter as pet rescues have received food and supply donations that equal the weight of a polar bear.

A Christmas food collection held by The Pet Vet saw people send in donations of food and supplies that were handed out to rescue centres including Royston Animal Welfare, BARC, Noah’s Ark, Barnsley and District Animal Welfare and Henry’s Haven.

In total, 700kg of food and supplies - the equivalent weight of a polar bear or a camel - was donated, which was supported by a significant contribution from Hill’s Pet Nutrition after head nurse Jacqueline Moore reached out.

She said: “We would like to thank all our wonderful customers and Hill’s for donating so generously.

“The donations have made a massive difference to these local organisations, and the teams were so appreciative when they came to the surgery to collect.

“Thanks to your kindness, there will now be lots of rescue pets with full bellies.”
