PUPILS at Netherwood Academy have been spreading Christmas cheer to the local community over the festive period.

The school, under the wing of the Astrea Academy Trust, have delivered cards to the local community and have collected groceries for hampers.

After discussing ‘random acts of kindness’ in their tutor time, students in year eight wrote Christmas cards to give to residents at the local care home, Valley Park, Wombwell.

Staff and pupils at Netherwood have also collected a range of groceries and Christmas goodies, as well as cash donations from Friends of Netherwood Academy.

These were made up into hampers which will be given to local residents and school families who are most in need.

Principal of Netherwood Academy, Jonny Mitchell, said: “We are very pleased to be able to play our part as a school in supporting and uplifting the elderly residents at Valley Park.

“The school community was also delighted to be able to collect items to help families who may face challenges this Christmas; as we know, this time of the year can be especially difficult for those in need.

“I would like to thank all our Netherwood staff, students, parents, carers and friends for their generosity and support of this collection.”
