TWO RUNNERS from Barnsley clubs broke club records at the latest York EvenSplits 5k.

Naomi Drakeford set a new PB and the Barnsley AC 5k women’s club record.

She finished as second woman and her time of 16-57 was exactly a minute faster than she had run at the same race in November 2023.

Emma Moore broke Penistone Footpath Runners’ club record time with 19-49 which beat the previous best of 20-37 set in 2019 by Sam Shaw.

She finished 132nd overall.

Three Penistone runners competed in the Treeton Lightning race which is a multi-terrain 4.6 mile race organised by Rotherham Harriers.

First Penistone runner back was Peter Beever in 12th place overall in a time of 38-18.

Kelvin Bowskill was next in a time of 41-38 and also claimed second place in the men’s over70 age category.

Two Penistone runners were in action on the fells around Bakewell, taking on the Leg It Round Lathkill Fell Race. Shaun Swallow finished in a time of 1-07-45 and Lois Lopez in 1-10-28.

At the Podium 5k in Barrowford, Barnsley AC’s Josh Bird finished just outside his PB with a time of 15-29.

In Spain, Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished as second woman at the Carreras Populares Gador Race. Her time for the 8.89km race was 39-19.

Barnsley AC’s Kerry Storrar finished as first over50 woman at Hyrox Manchester which involves running 1km then doing a different functional work-out station eight times. Her time was 1-17-51.

There were was a record 76 Penistone runners taking part in ParkRuns this week. There were first places for Jade Crosby (Barnsley ParkRun), James Fryers (Town Moor ParkRun) and George Parr (Penistone ParkRun).

Second places went to Andrew Pearson (Selby) and Hannah Shaw (Penistone). ‘Performance of the week’ was Andrew Pearson at Selby who, in the over60 age category, completed the 5k route in a time of 17-48.

This gave Andrew an age-graded score of 90.07 per cent.

At Pontefract ParkRun, Barnsley AC’s Alan Nutton improved his PB by two seconds from last week to 18-10 while Naomi Drakeford was first woman in 19-38. Lennon Hughes was first finisher at Barnsley ParkRun for the third week in a row, his time was 17-54.
