FIREFIGHTERS across Barnsley had a busy Bonfire Night this week as they were called out to four deliberate blazes.

November 5 is always one of the busiest nights on the fire service’s calendar and Tuesday was no different.

Firefighters from Cudworth station were first called to a deliberate bin fire on Peel Square at 7.20pm.

They extinguished the blaze and left the scene at 7.35pm.

Three fire crews from Cudworth, Barnsley and Dearne stations were then called to a caravan which had been torched in Darfield.

They arrived on College Terrace, at 7.40pm, to extinguish the blaze before leaving the scene around an hour later.

Cudworth station firefighters were then called into action again after a sofa and mattress was set alight in a Lundwood play area.

They arrived at 9.25pm on Pontefract Road and left 15 minutes later.

Firefighters from Tankersley station remained on duty and were called to a rubbish fire on Hall Street, Hoyland, at 5.45am.

They extinguished the deliberate fire and came away at 6.15am.
