THE TWO sides at Barnsley RUFC had very different outcomes in their crucial games this week.

Barnsley Ladies won 48-0 at home to Sheffield in the Championship North One – the second tier in England.

The Shaw Laners are seventh in the ten-team league, 13 points clear of the bottom two.

Sheffield were winless and second bottom.

There were tries for Barnsley’s Amy Needham, Katie England, Becky Patrick, twice, Jasmine Brankin, Ellie Erskine, twice, and Jess Lyons.

Alix Taylor converted four of the eight tries.

Barnsley are next due to visit bottom club Bishop Auckland on November 17.

Meanwhile, Barnsley’s men suffered a sixth successive loss and are now eight points adrift in the Yorkshire Division Three relegation zone.

They lost 24-0 at home to fellow strugglers Burley. They now visit another side in the relegation battle when they go to third-bottom West Park Leeds on Saturday.

Wath won 21-19 at Harrogate Pythons in Yorkshire Division One. There were tries by Oliver Winstanley, Matt Jenkins and Sean Hopper with Jack Whitlam converting all three.

Wath were 12-7 down with five minutes left but came back to lead 21-12 before the hosts scored converted try with the final action.

Fifth-placed Wath are now due to host fourth-placed Hullensians on Saturday.

Dearne Valley are due back in Yorkshire Division Four action after three weeks off on Saturday when they host Maltby.
