BARNSLEY AC’s Gary Briscoe collected a medal while representing England in the British Masters Championships at the Chester Marathon.
His time of 2-31-02 was good enough to win bronze in the men’s over35 category.
Jack Bellamy knocked almost 30 minutes off his marathon PB, finishing in a time of 2-49-36.
Barnsley Harrier David Hanks went under three hours for the second time this year with 2-53-03 which put him 162nd.
In the 26k Chester Metric Marathon, Harrier Catherine Stone set a PB of 2-23-37 for 286th place.
Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished as third female in a time of 40-02 at the 8.86k Carreras Populates Antas Trail Race in Spain.
At Roundhay 10k, Barnsley AC’s Jacqueline Wallace ran the course with her daughter Charlotte, in 1-21-50.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park held their Run for Wildlife 5k in aid of endangered cheetahs. Barnsley AC’s Alan Nutton finished fifth overall and first over40 male with a time of 18-58. Harrier Geoff Hayes finished 370th in 33-39.
Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood finished fourth at the No Walk in the Park 5k held in Chesterfield’s Queens Park. His time was 19-11.
At the DonFaster 5k, first home for Penistone Footpath Runners was Andy Heppenstall in 16-31 for 13th overall to earn himself a PB and an over40 club record.
He was closely followed by Richard Cottam who also achieved a PB, with a time of 16-46 and 19th position overall. Gareth Irvine finished in 19-13.
Hannah Shaw was the next Penistone runner to achieve a PB with a time of 20-42, narrowly missing a club record by five seconds. She finished 89th.
Ashley Howlett was 95th in 20-56, also getting a PB following on from a week of illness. Barnsley AC’s Gavin Walker ran a new 5k PB of 17-00. Barnsley Harriers Richard Spooner and Simon Newton recorded their fastest 5k times of the year. Spooner came 18th with 16-44 and Newton 55th in 19-12.
Shaun Yates also set a new best time with 17-20 which was almost two minutes quicker than his time for the same race in October 2023.
A contingent from the Penistone club made their way up to the Lake District to compete in Saturday’s Hodgson Brothers Fell Relay. They finished 51st in a very strong field of teams.
A storming performance on leg four from Tom Fryers and George Parr in 1-21-26 beat the club record for that leg which they had set the previous year.
Other runners included Sarah Walch and Paul Fryers on leg one, Simon Pike and James Fryers on leg two and Steve Sanders and Jon Hallam on leg three. Tom Fryers then set a PB of 37-06 at the Cambridge 10k the next day.
Also competing on the fells were Penistone’s Mark and Heather Graham, completing the near ten-mile Curbar Commotion in the Peak District.
First back was Heather in a time of 1-50-25 in 201st overall, closely followed by Mark in 1-55-56 to take 225th position in a large field of runners.
