A BARNSLEY man who poured soup over a women’s rights campaigner during a demonstration in Sheffield has been charged by South Yorkshire Police.

Kellie-Jay Keen, who is known online as Posie Parker, was leading a ‘Let Women Speak’ rally in Sheffield on Saturday.

Kellie, who has campaigned against transgender women using female-only spaces, had a tin of tomato soup poured over her.

Ben Lindsay, 34, of Fitzwilliam Street, was arrested by officers after attempting to flee and was subsequently charged with two counts of assault by beating.

He has since been released on conditional bail and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on November 25.

Ms Keen, who has more than 100,000 followers on social media, said: “In the middle of setting up the YouTube livestream, a man who was about six foot came up behind me and poured a tin of tomato soup all over my head.

“I didn’t really think about the quantity of soup but it was a lot of soup.

“It covered my arms and the front of my top and my back and my hair.

“Women all around came with water bottles to instantly get rid of it.

“He then ran off, chased by a couple of women, and the police got him.

“He was arrested, remanded in custody.

“I gave a statement, as did the other lady assaulted who helped with my tech and he’s been charged with assault by beating.”
