THE sun came out for a care home’s residents’ day which saw the whole community - and a few special guests - turn out to show their support.

Belle Green Court in Cudworth hosted the fun-filled day last Friday, with multiple stalls and live entertainment provided by Alan Turner, who previously appeared on The X Factor and now hosts regular shows at the care home.

People from across the community turned up to help out and donate money to the residents’ fund, including an appearance from Coun Joe Hayward and retired Olympic sprinter Dorothy Hyman.

Home manager, Michelle Sidlow, told the Chronicle: “Residents have built a good relationship with Alan - he’s come in a few times now.

“The community’s been brilliant but there’s been great teamwork here to bring it all together.”

Local businesses donated prizes for the tombola and raffle, with Dodworth Fisheries offering free fish and chips to winners and both Poppy’s and Curly Swirly tea rooms giving away visits.

Funds raised will go to similar projects in the future, with Michelle specifically noting more visits and animal therapy.

Dorothy told the Chronicle: “I come from Cudworth, so this is all local.

“This kind of community event is what we need more of and it’s a nice day too which is good.

“But it’s just nice that people are coming out because residents really only get family visitors so it’s exciting for them too.”
