A BARNSLEY man told officers during his arrest that he was “proud” of his actions during the large-scale violent disorder outside the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers last month.

24-year-old Brad Westerman was part of a mob who launched missiles at officers who were protecting the hotel and the staff and residents inside.

The behaviour Westerman was “proud” of included throwing a bin at officers.

Following an appeal by South Yorkshire Police, a member of the public identified Westerman as one of those involved in the violent scenes – leading to his arrest.

After he was arrested, Westerman was shown CCTV footage of his despicable actions to which he responded by claiming he had done “nothing wrong”.

After pleading guilty to violent disorder, Westerman, of Washington Road, Goldthorpe, was jailed for two years and eight months in a sentencing hearing last week. He was also given a 10-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
