A LOCAL service which supports residents living with dementia has the chance of picking up £20,000 at this weekend’s Sky Bet Ebor Festival Community Festival.

As part of the joint initiative between York Racecourse and Sky Bet, the sweepstake rewards local good causes from across Yorkshire and acknowledges their hard work within the community.

Barnsley Hospice finished second in last year’s event and received £5,000 - but BIADS will now be hoping their horse goes one step further this time out.

This year, more than 150 entries to the sweepstake were made, and the final shortlist of 22 represents a diverse range of causes from the four points of the Yorkshire region’s compass.

Linda Pattison, the charity’s chief officer, told the Chronicle: “BIADS is absolutely thrilled to have been selected to be part of the Sky Bet Community Sweepstake at the Ebor race meeting in York this weekend.

“We know that we will come away with at least £1,000 which is fabulous but if our horse came first it would be incredible to pick up £20,000.

“Whatever amount we come away with will be used to support Barnsley people who are affected by dementia.

“I know all our members will be sitting in front of the TV on Saturday afternoon with everything crossed.”
