BARNSLEY Woolley Miners are looking to make it third time lucky this season against near neighbours Cawthorne tomorrow in a game which could be vital in both clubs’ relegation battless in Yorkshire Premier South.

Third-bottom Barnsley, who lost this week, and fifth-bottom Cawthorne, who won, are level on points – both 19 points clear of the bottom two with six games left.

Cawthorne dismissed Barnsley for 74 in 42 overs in the league meeting at Shaw Lane where they returned last week for a one-wicket win in the K3 Dental Cup quarter-finals.

Barnsley captain Liam Johnson said: “They have done us twice in two so we feel like we owe them one.

“There is personal pride at stake.

“A lot of the lads from Barnsley know Cawthorne lads who are from Barnsley. There is a rivalry there.

“Whoever wins will have a good buffer to the bottom two.

“Whoever loses could get sucked back into it.

“The cup game against them last week was very similar to our league game at Tickhill this week.

“We had the game by the scruff of the neck, it was foot on throat time, and suddenly our soft underbelly came out and cost us.

“Hopefully that doesn’t happen a third time.”
