Stunning portraits of some Barnsley characters have been captured in print by photographer Chris Sedgewick.

He undertook the 'Voices in the Stone' project when the university building in Barnsley, formerly the technical college, was 75-years-old. To view the pictures click the following link, , or go the the 'Photos' section of the website.

Each of the characters photographed was taught in the building and went on to achieve a qualification.

Many of those who were educated there when it was the technical college went on to work in the mines. More recently it has been the University Campus Barnsley and the portraits also include a sculptor who learnt her trade there.

Chris, of Park Grove, Barnsley, said it was an interesting project to be involved in and many of the photographs were taken at the National Mining Museum at the former Caphouse Colliery.

"The building was a mining college and a lot of the guys at Caphouse are ex-miners. I cherry-picked several of the lads who had passed exams there.

"Everybody in the exhibition attended that college at some point."

Prints are on the walls of the UCB, Church Street, Barnsley.
