WHILE famous for his work with Children in Need a ten-year-old with dreams of becoming an Olympian is also making his mark in sports.

Guy Hebdon won a Young Champions award earlier this year for his volunteering and commitment to fundraising for Children in Need, but last Saturday bagged a further prestigious trophy.

The young boy from Cawthorne joined Wakefield Junior Triathlon Club back in February 2023 and has been moving up the rankings ever since, competing in club events and in the hard fought Yorkshire Triathlon Series.

Recently he broke into the top five and at Ripon Triathlon in July he achieved his all time best result of fourth, narrowly missing out on the podium where he would have been presented by one of his triathlon heroes Jonny Brownlee.

But his determination finally paid off this weekend when he attended the Belvoir Castle Triathlon event in Leicestershire, where he took gold against a field of 20 competitors from clubs in Lancashire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.

His dad, John Hebdon, said: “It’s Guy’s dream to be an Olympic athlete and he has proved his determination so watch this space.

“With eight years’ hard work and dedication, he could be in Brisbane by 2032.

“We are very proud of Guy’s achievement, he works so hard in training, and truly deserves his success.

“Meeting Jonny Brownlee at Ripon Triathlon two weeks ago seems to have inspired him to victory.

“It only seems two minutes since he was last out of the pool in his first triathlon

“This win is great to build his confidence.”
