A BARNSLEY Hospital porter doesn’t stop work when he clocks off and, from skydiving to a wing walk, he’s doing all he can to help support patients.

Luke Callaghan, 29, does all he can to support the hospital, whether in or out of work hours.

In June, this led to him taking on a 15,000-feet-high skydive where he raised £1,170 for the Barnsley Hospital Charity - and despite it being his first skydive, he’s already signed up for another.

Then next year, the man from Brierley will be taking on a wing walk to raise funds for new TVs in the hospital.

He told the Chronicle: “I’ve just done it out of my own heart.

“I’ve felt confident about it all, but I just try to go out and get it out of the way.

“The skydive was enjoyable - it was a great experience.

“It’s amazing when you look down from the top and then there’s a real adrenaline rush when you land on the ground.

“Then it’s great to have all this money to help out with patients on ward 19 who’ve got dementia.”

Luke has been put forward at this year’s Proud of Barnsley awards by his colleague Julia Juhasz, who described him as the ‘most polite, helpful, happy person’ she knows.

“It’s just amazing that I’ve been nominated,” Luke added.

“I’m stuck for words with it all to be honest.”
