A BELOVED cafe that prides itself on providing homemade goods has been crowned the best cafe in South Yorkshire.

The Pantry Cafe, at Elsecar Heritage Centre, has won the award for best cafe at England’s Business Awards last weekend.

Yet, owner Jane Oakley admits that she wasn’t expecting this at all.

“It came out of the blue,” she told the Chronicle.

“We were nominated by a member of the public - when I heard I thought it wasn’t really anything.

“You then get judged by mystery shoppers who compare with other cafes in the same category.

“There were three other cafes in South Yorkshire put forward.

“The only problem is that we’re now under pressure to live up to expectations.”

The cafe has been there for 15 years and Jane believes the location helps it ‘tick all the boxes’ with customers.

She added: “We’ve been here through Covid, snow and floods.

“Unless there’s a power outage and we simply can’t operate then we’ll be here.

“It’s a great location - we get families, older people, antique hunters, all sorts coming in so I think we tick all the boxes for lots of different people.

“Everything we do is homemade - we pride ourselves on that.

“We’re constantly baking everything that we can.”
