PUPILS at a special needs school in Thurnscoe have been volunteering within the community to help out those around them.
Robert Ogden School youngsters took part in gardening work at the Dearne Unit in Goldthorpe, helping the Safe Places site maintain its outdoor area.
Teaching assistant Andy Walton told the Chronicle: “The students also purchased some herbs and compost for them as a way of saying thank you for letting them come out and do this.
“They’ve really enjoyed it, meeting new people in the community and learning some new gardening skills.
“We’ve been that pleased with how it’s gone that we want to do more.
“There’s lots of different areas we can support like senior citizen groups, who we could go out and do shopping for.
“We’d be happy to do anything that keeps us involved in the community.”
