FATHER and son boxing team Josh and Mick Wale enjoyed a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ day out as they attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace this week.
Josh, Mick and Gail, Mick’s wife and Josh’s mum, were invited to Wednesday’s event as a thanks for their work in the community.
Now based in Brampton, the Wale-run gym has been a safe place for youngsters to get fit, keep out of trouble and learn discipline for more than three decades.
Mick, who won the Proud of Barnsley special recognition award in 2022, said: “It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one we will never forget.
“I was really proud to be a part of it - there were people there from all walks of life.
“We were there about four hours and it was a great atmosphere.
“It was a very proud day for our family.”
King Charles was in attendance.
Mick added: “I saw the King of England and had tea in his back garden - not many people can say that.”
