A NEW fitness group in Penistone is hoping to expose people’s natural talents as they help the community get active.
Organised by Steve Dickinson, the group will begin on April 4 at 6.30pm at the Trans Pennine Trail, by the skate park on the showground.
Anyone is free to get involved and pick up a new or develop a forgotten skill.
Steve told the Chronicle: “Basically it’s for anyone in the community, whether you’re beginning to run, want to get back into it, or are intermediary.
“It’s for all levels - we’re aiming to do five kilometres eventually but that will take a while.
“For the first few weeks we’ll just be walking or jogging 100 metres at a time.”
Steve hopes participants will do what he describes as ‘homework’ between sessions, taking on their own runs to develop their abilities.
“In the past we’ve had people who’ve never run before go on to do the London Marathon,” he added.
“You’ve obviously got people with a lot of natural abilities who just don’t realise it until they join and get moving.
“We’re helping people discover that, and getting the community to exercise.”
