A TEENAGER is aiming to walk 1,600 miles - the equivalent of a round trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats - by the end of the year to raise funds in honour of his grandma.
Alfie Robinson, from Barugh Green, embarked on this epic journey in the beginning of February after his grandmother, Sylvia Robinson, died.
The 18-year-old’s already covered 200 miles and has raised close to £1,700 for the Stroke Association charity.
“I’ve been out every day this week,” he told the Chronicle.
“At the minute I’m well on track, especially with summer coming up when there’ll be longer days so I can do more walking.
“I’ve had family, friends and colleagues joining me, it’s going really well.”
He was inspired to take on the challenge by his grandma, who was an avid walker herself.
Alfie added: “Walking was one of my grandma’s favourite pastimes.
“I love walking too but didn’t get chance to go out every day.
“I wanted to challenge myself to get out more and make sure I’m walking regularly.
“It’s literally changed my life, I’m up at the crack of dawn and out so I can fit it all in.”
