A COUNCILLOR has vowed to work with authorities to improve road safety in his ward - after two recent collisions injured pedestrians.
Coun Phil Lofts, who represents the Old Town ward, has been working with the council following a number of collisions on Pogmoor Road.
The accidents, which injured both pedestrians and motorists, have also caused damage to a roadside building - as well as adding congestion close to Barnsley Hospital’s Gawber Road site.
Having listened to concerned residents, Coun Lofts has stated he will work with Barnsley Council and others to ensure practical road safety improvements are considered.
He has identified that on one side of the street there is 250 metres without street lighting - and local residents have said that a number of motorists regularly break the 30mph speed limit.
He told the Chronicle: “I will be working in partnership with Barnsley Council to investigate street lighting improvements and call on South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership to reintroduce mobile speed camera operations on this stretch of road.
“I saw first-hand the impact recent road traffic accidents has on our community.
“I’ll work hard to reduce the risk of future incidents on that stretch of Pogmoor Road.”
