BARNSLEY’S only Conservative MP Miriam Cates is being investigated over claims she is causing ‘significant damage’ to the reputation of Parliament.
Mrs Cates, who represents the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, has been vocal on her views on topics such as the Rwanda Bill and trans people in recent weeks.
But it was revealed earlier this week that the Parliamentary Standards Watchdog are investigating the MP, who has been in office since 2019, for ‘actions causing significant damage to the reputation of the house as a whole, or of its members generally.
The announcement does not give any further details.
Investigations by the commissioner, Daniel Greenberg, are kept confidential until the inquiry is concluded.
The Chronicle contact Mrs Cates’ office for a comment, but those under investigation are barred from discussing the investigations.
