Barnsley suffered a humbling 3-0 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds were on top in the first half but fell behind shortly before the break then were very poor in the second half while conceding from 45 yards then 25 yards.
It was the first time Barnsley had been beaten at home in League One in 28 games since a loss to Chesterfield in April 2016, and Wycombe’s first ever win at Oakwell.
Barnsley kept the same team that beat Bristol Rovers 3-0 on Tuesday, but Nicky Cadden returned from injury to sit on the bench in place of Clarke Oduor.
The Reds had the first chance when Robbie Cundy headed Josh Benson’s right-wing free-kick towards the top right corner but Wycombe’s debutant goalkeeper Max Stryjek tipped it over.
Stryjek then saved easily from long-range efforts by Liam Kitching – whose shot was deflected after a superb run – and Luca Connell, who also headed over from a left-wing Benson corner.
Barnsley were well on top for the first 35 minutes but did not look quite as threatening as the previous game and it was the visitors who took the lead with their first real attack.
After a long ball was brought down in the box, David Wheeler found Anis Mehmeti who finished well from 12 yards out.
Jack Aitchison almost responded instantly but his shot from just inside the box was tipped over by Stryjek.
Mehmeti then had another shot, from outside the box, which was easily saved by Collins on a counter-attack after some home corners.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Brad Collins saved comfortably from Lewis Wing’s powerful but central free-kick then another long-range effort by Jack Grimmer.
The visitors looked certain to take the lead on 51 minutes when Garath McCleary’s shot from the left of the box hit the inside of the right post then Mehmeti somehow flicked it onto the crossbar when standing almost on the line.
Chris Forino hooked wide after Collins dropped a free-kick then, at the other end, Aitchison sped down the left and crossed low for Cole who could not make contact at the near post amid calls for a penalty.
Aitchison and Connell were replaced by Matty Wolfe and James Norwood.
The second goal was an extraordinary moment as Dominic Gape shot from about 45 yards and lobbed the back-pedalling Collins.
Barnsley responded fairly well at first with Wolfe having a header saved from a corner then Norwood blasted a long-range deflected effort just off target.
The third goal came on 84 minutes when substitute Nick Freeman curled into the top left corner from 25 yards.
Ali Al-Hamadi almost got a fourth after weaving through the home defence but Collins made a good save with his foot.
