BARNSLEY’S rate of post-neonatal mortality - the number of infants that die between 28 days and one year old - is at its highest point in five years.
New Public Health England statistics show local rates are the third-highest in Yorkshire and the Humber, at 1.8 per 1,000 between 2018 and 2020.
Across the period, 14 infants died - the highest since 2013/15 when 15 instances of post-neonatal death were recorded.
