A FOUR-BY-FOUR vehicle equipped with CCTV will be deployed to communities blighted by antisocial behaviour in order to deter offenders - or record them in the act.
Barnsley Council’s Safer Neighbourhood Service, a team which works alongside police officers, says the vehicle will become an ‘essential tool’ to help them deliver community safety in the borough.
The SsangYong Rexton will be used for a wide range of purposes and will become a part of their daily activity, helping them to provide high-visibility patrols to support communities with issues around antisocial behaviour
and crime.
The 2.2-litre diesel engine has a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes which gives the team enough power to safely and legally carry out their duties, including moving heavy equipment such as graffiti cleaners.
It’s been kitted out with high-tech equipment which will be used to provide coverage in antisocial hotspots to gather intelligence and provide enforcement.
In situations where required, it will also be available for use in response to emergency incidents, providing remote coverage for borough-wide incidents with the ability to relay images to a control room.
