A BOY who hasn’t been to the barber for seven years has braved a cut for charity.

Joseph Bennett used to hate going to the barber so much his mum Lisa gave him an ultimatum: She would stop taking him until he asked her to.

That was when he was six. Now aged 13, Joseph finally asked his mum to have his hair chopped.

But to mark the momentous occasion - and make the most of his 20in long locks - he has donated them to charity, The Little Princess Trust.

His hair will be used to help make wigs for children suffering with cancer and undergoing treatment.

Lisa, from Sparkfields, Mapplewell, said: “He used to make such a performance it didn’t seem fair to force him to go. “He asked his brother to get out of the car so he could talk to me in private. I thought it was going to be something really serious but he just wanted to ask if he could get it cut.

“I’ve gotten used to it being long, it makes him look different to his classmates. But it is completely up to him. The hairstyle he has picked is really short, more or less shaved back and sides and spiky on top.”

Darton High student Joseph had the chop at Leslie Frances in the town centre, where the stylist set aside an hour to get the job done.

Lisa said: “We are really proud of him. It was me who said it to him all those years ago so I’m not one to stand in his way now.”
