CHILD actors from Barnsley have appeared in a two-part drama based on the kidnapping of schoolgirl Shannon Matthews.
The Moorside, which aired on Tuesday and concludes next week, stars Sheridan Smith as Karen Matthews’s friend Julie Bushby, who led the desperate search for the nine-year-old, who disappeared in 2008.
Karen was later revealed to be involved in the plot to hide Shannon and claim a £50,000 reward. She served half of her eight-year prison sentence.
The show focusses on how a group of women brought their community together in their attempt to find Shannon, and the impact on them when the truth was finally revealed.
Jaimee Bailey, seven, plays the daughter of Karen’s neighbour Natalie, who became suspicious of Karen’s behaviour.
