A WOMBWELL woman has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Vera Chipchase, nee Parker, celebrated with family, fellow residents and staff at Emyvale Care Home, on Brampton Road, Hemingfield at her party on Wednesday.
Vera, who lived at Storey’s Gate, Wombwell, prior to moving into Emyvale, has lived through two world wars and has eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great, great, grandchild.
She had six children with husband Dennis, who died in a motor accident in 1974, but one was stillborn, Norma died aged six months of pneumonia, and Elaine died aged 45 as a result of breast cancer. Vera has three surviving sons, David, Norman and Stephen.
